Students in 4th grade at CP Smith have created podcast episodes about the people and places that make our community special. Students selected their topics, wrote interview questions, interviewed community members, edited and produced their podcasts. We are working with other elementary schools in VT to explore and celebrate our communities through podcasting. VT has just one area code (802), but within 802 there are a diversity of community experiences. This podcast project provides students with an authentic place to share their ideas about their communities and provides listeners with a deeper understanding of what makes each VT community special to its young residents.
CP Smith would like to thank all the people who made time to participate in these interviews.

Why Podcasting?
Student Engagement: Through podcasting students can share their learning with an authentic audience. Podcasting projects can be structured so that students have choice and a voice in the way the story is told. Podcasting in small groups can support every learner in having a meaningful role and an opportunity to share their learning beyond the school walls.
Media Literacy & Positive Media Engagement:
* By creating multimedia content, students deepen their understanding of how media can communicate ideas and evoke emotional responses.
* Podcasting engages students in being using technology in positive and constructive ways.
* Podcasting is Digital Citizenship in action! Digital Citizenship is about more than online safety. It’s about supporting learners to be thoughtful, empathetic digital citizens who can wrestle with the important ethical questions at the intersection of technology and humanity.
